Welcome!

Ryan-Schlagel-150x172Hi, my name is Ryan Schlagel and I’m a systems (computer) engineer. I currently work for a large organization named Thomson Reuters as a Lead Windows Engineer in the upper midwest and I also own my own consulting company, Schlagel Consulting Services, LLC. While working at Thomson Reuters I manage over 8,000 servers world-wide primarily with a focus towards Microsoft Windows. My consulting company is geared towards small businesses looking to establish a presence on the web to mid-size organizations looking to implement updated technology. As I matured through my various positions in my career, I took an interest to coding. Over the years I’ve acquired coding skills such as Batch, VBScripts, JavaScripts, HTML, SQL, PowerShell, Visual Basic, Visual C++, Classic ASP, ASP.NET (VB/C#) and some BASH. I’ve spent the past 10 years being a jack of all trades in my previous job managing things like, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft SQL Server, VMWare ESX Infrastructure, Storage, Microsoft Exchange, Windows Server, Linux Server, F5 Load Balancers, Citrix Presentation Server and much more.

Regarding the blog, because of the creative things that I get asked to do, I commonly make notes on all of my projects. Periodically I get asked to do tasks that I’ve already coded or designed and sometimes finding those notes gets to be tricky (I’m generally an organized guy). Roughly a year ago, I decided to make some of my notes public. Not only does it give me a single point of reference in the event I need to recall something from a previous project but some of you may be working on similar projects that you may find this information useful. In addition to the notes, I’m starting to upload some of my scripts and snippets of various functions that I commonly use during my script creations. It made sense to share this info as well. I know, I know…. there are plenty of these same examples elsewhere on the web; however remember, these are my notes! :c) Use them if you wish.

One other thing before I go, like most of you I keep competitive in my field because I’m constantly being challenged. I’m offering up help for those of you who may need some assistance in writing code. If you have a project that you are working on and you’re having troubles getting it finished up and functional or if you’ve been searching the web for an example of how to do something, feel free to drop me a line via email or via the comments section below and I’ll see if I have what you’re looking for. I have over 2,000 VBScripts and over 1,000 PowerShell scripts now so it’s certainly possible that I have what you’re looking for.

I hope you find this blog useful. I enjoy writing so if you have something that you’d like published, please reach out via email or the comments section below and I’ll see what I can do.

Thanks,
Ryan Schlagel
